“Testing the Spirits.”

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they be of God.” I John 4:1

Before Bobby and I moved to Haiti, we had a lot of experience with “spirits.” We had “open-air” meetings, we preached in tents, in churches, and other places, and even pastored a church before moving to Haiti. If you visit enough churches, you will soon see why God said to “try the spirit,” to see if it is God. And many times, there are “spirits” in churches that are not of God. The devil can send one person into a church to disrupt!

We were in a church service once, when a great man of God was going to be the speaker. The pastor was getting ready to introduce this man of God, when we heard strange noises coming from a lady in the front row. She started “chirping” like a bird, loudly! The speaker, a man of God, “slid up behind her and whispered something in her ear.” She got up and left quietly. Later, out of curiosity, we asked the visiting evangelist what he told her. We thought maybe he quoted a Bible verse, so we were anxious to find out what the speaker said. He just grinned and said, “I put my mouth to her and said, ‘Lady, if you don’t shut up, I’m gonna knock your block off!’” We are living in a day and time when there will be all kinds of “spirits,” and some won’t be of God! Have a blessed day in the Lord!
