Word from the Mission Field

“The Waters, the Rivers, and the Fire, and the Gangs…”

We have been living here in Haiti for 27 years. We have been through the “overthrow” of President Aristide, riots, hurricanes, the earthquake of 2010, and now, we are living in a war zone. Never has Haiti been so violent. A few days ago, we left Fond Parisien to take “Yonel,” one of our children, to the Hospital in Carrefour, about two hours away. On the way, we passed a dead person in the street on the right and then, our driver pointed to one on the left. We were in a war zone, in Haiti in an area called “Martissaint,” in Port-au-Prince.

This morning, one our missionary friends who were on our property, had their truck stolen by the fearful “Papaya Gang,” named so, because the hundreds of thugs with guns, hide in the papaya fields and have police on guard to let them know when a vehicle is coming. One of our workers was kidnapped and our clinic van was stolen by the Papaya Gang. In order to do anything, or buy anything in Haiti, we have to pass right through the Papaya Gang.

But, the Lord said, “When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle up thee.” Isaiah 43:2

So, I just wrote in my Bible, “Neither shall the Papaya Gang touch thee!” The Lord is our defense. We never want to put ourselves in a dangerous situation on purpose to “tempt the Lord,” but I add, “neither shall the Papaya Gang touch thee!!!”

Today in your life, what is your greatest fear? Fear is a tormenting spirit. Do not allow fear to run your life, nor to ruin it!!! God is your defense, today!!! DO NOT FEAR!!!! GOD IS ON YOUR SIDE!!!  Have a great day!!!
