“What does it take for God to get your attention?”
“The Barley Fields…” This message was preached by two great men of God… Jack Coe and AA Allen. The story begins in II Samuel… King David had banished his son, Absalom, as punishment and therefore Absalom was not permitted to come and see the king. He sent a message to Joab, David’s most trusted warrior, and asked him to come to see him so that Joab would ask the king for a meeting on behalf of Absalom.
But Joab was angry with David’s son, Absalom, and he would not go… “And when he sent again the second time, he would not come.” (2 Samuel 14:29)
“Therefore, he (Absalom) said unto his servants, See, Joab’s field is near mine, and he hath barley there; go and set it on fire. And Absalom’s servants set the field on fire.” (2 Samuel 14:30) Joab looked out to see his beautiful field of barley blazing! He called and asked his servants, “Who did this?” They replied, “Absalom!”
Joab came angrily and talked to Absalom, “Why did you burn my barley fields?” Absalom said, “I called you once; you did not come. I called you twice; you did not come. So, to get your attention, I set fire to your barley fields!”
It worked! Absalom got Joab’s attention! It is better to stay tuned to the voice of God, and when you feel that the Lord is calling you, stop and listen, and obey! God always has a way of getting your attention. He may have to set fire “to your barley fields,” whatever they may be. “To obey is better than to sacrifice!”
Have a wonderful day and listen for God’s voice and obey! Sherry
