“Confess and Repent.”

Part One: “Caught With Your Pants Down!”

It is really hard for some people to admit they did wrong and ask for forgiveness… Proverbs 28:13 says, “He that covereth his sins shall not prosper; but whoso confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy, or shall find mercy.”

Some time ago here in Haiti, we received a phone call from Nelio, our Love A Child director in Haiti. It was very late at night and strange that he would call. His message was direct and brief, “Sherry, you and Bobby go to the front gate, now! Changla, the security, has a gun pointed at Bouje, because Bouje stole some gasoline from you. And oh, yes, he is naked.” Then he hung up.

Shocked, Bobby and I got and drove down to the gate. There in the dark, was Bouje, one of the workers, and our security holding a gun pointed at him! Bouje had his hands on two large five-gallon containers of diesel, and oh, yes, he was “butt naked,” and greased with slick oil. He had his “get-away-donkey” on the other side of the wall.

He had been stealing diesel (which at the time, was in limited supply), and had filled up two five-gallon buckets by siphoning fuel with a hose, from our trucks, and was trying to climb over the wall, when the security got him! He had “greased himself,” so that if anyone grabbed him he could slip away.

I fussed at him in Creole! “Bouje, what’s wrong with you? We gave you a job to help you!! Nelio said we have to take you to the police station but if you admit what you did and say, I’m sorry, and I stole the diesel, but I won’t do it again, we will give you another chance and you won’t go to jail.”

His first words were, “Madamn Sherry, I’m not stealing anything!” I said, “Bouje, you are butt naked, greased up, and have your hands on two five-gallon buckets of our fuel, and your get-away-donkey on the other side of the wall, but, you didn’t steal anything, and you’re not doing anything wrong? Really?”

Bobby sent to get him some clothes and we took Bouje, and Reggie, one of our workers, and the two five-gallon buckets of diesel in our truck and headed to the police station, at about 1:00 a.m.

Continued tomorrow… You won’t believe it! Sherry
