Word from the Mission Field: 3-9-19 6:00 AM

What a responsibility God has placed upon our shoulders. He has commanded us, you and me, to be His “candle, His flashlight,” in this dark world. Every day you wake up, you must “turn your light on.” When we first moved from Mt. Noire, Haiti, to Fond Parisien, Haiti, it was different. The Haitian people in this area were much different than the mountain people we had lived with. Now, we found ourselves in the midst of witch doctors and many other evil people mixed in with the good people. One of these people was Joel Estive, a local witch doctor. I happened to be in the village of “Old LeTant,” and asked, “Who had the largest kay-pay (mud hut),” that we could borrow for our Mobile Clinic. They all said, “See Joel.” I did… Joel agreed to lend us his “tonnel,” which I thought was an oddly shaped round kay-pay. I never even realized we were in the middle of a witch doctor’s tonnel where they had just had a Voodoo service and buried an animal alive in the ground. I watched as Joel covered a large black wooden Voodoo cross with a sheet, and then we prayed and started the Mobile Clinic. Little did I know, we had all just become “a candle in the midst of Joel’s dark light.” The story is too long to share, but in about a year, Joel, the mean witch doctor was down on his knees, weeping and crying and shaking under the power of God… What if I had said, “No, I don’t like that little Voodoo hut… I’m too busy,” or “He just needs to go to church and get saved.” Sinners don’t go to church. They come to “you.” You’re the candle… You have the flashlight… All you have to do is “Let it shine.” Sherry
