Word from the Mission Field

“Our Security Guard.”

We have lived in Haiti for 28 years. When we moved to our property in Fond Parisien, Haiti, we had to clear the land, run off the bad guys, and get the Voodoo people saved. After, in addition to all our churches and schools in the mountains, we developed many projects on our land… i.e. a church, a large school for 900 children, a radio station, the Food Distribution Center, the Jesus Healing Center Clinic, the Malnutrition Clinic, Carpenters Shop, and the orphanage.

Since there are a lot of “gangs” and “thugs” in our area, we had to hire some “local security” to walk around at night and make sure no one was stealing anything. We had some problems in the past, so hiring local guys seemed to be a good thought.

Bobby told them, “If you are the security at night, you must walk around the compound with your stick, and your flashlight and blow your whistle if you hear or see anyone. That way, another guy can come and help you.”

However, we began to have things stolen at night. So, one night, Bobby decided to walk around the property in the dark, and see if the security guards were awake. He caught one sleeping in our bus, another one sleeping under a tree, and one sleeping on the porch of our clinic. He went right over to one of them, leaned over and yelled right in his face! He almost gave him a heart attack. These “sleepers” got one more chance and if they were caught, they would get fired.

One night, Bobby and I got in our truck and drove down to the main gate. There was our “local security guy,” Logene, laying on the pavers, face-up, sound asleep, and snoring. Bobby turned his lights to shine on him. He still didn’t wake up! He then “blew his horn,” and Logene still remained motionless! Bobby thought he was dead and got out of his truck and went over, leaned over, and yelled his name! Logene sat up, slowly… rubbing his eyes. Bobby was so upset!

Through the years, we’ve learned one thing… we “have the best security” in the world. The Bible says, “Behold, He that keepeth Israel shall neither slumber nor sleep!” Psalm 121:4

God is our “security guard!” He is the best security guard in the world and He’s “all ours!” So, fear not! God is watching over you, 24/7! Sherry

P.S. God sent me a little extra help… he’s a Rottweiler, named Sampson, and he doesn’t sleep at night, either! He never falls asleep on the job! He misses nothing!
