Word from the Mission Field

For the poor shall never cease out of the land; therefore I command thee saying, “Thou shalt open thy hand wide unto thy brother, the poor, and to thy needy in thy land.” Deuteronomy 15:11

Living in Haiti has opened our eyes to the poor, like never before. Little children result in eating things like “cookies made of mud” and drinking “saltwater soup” to fill their hunger. Mothers tell them to “sleep on your stomach so that you won’t feel the pain of hunger.”

Many times, we have asked God, “why?” Why would God allow the poor to be here? But God had a plan… He knew that you and I would be on this earth at this time and that we would work together to help the poor in Haiti, and in other places around the world. He depends on you and me to “help the poor,” because “we are God’s hands.” We are “God’s feet.” We are “the very heart of God.”

It has been hard working in Haiti, seeing the poor suffer, while the rich have three or four houses… one in the states, one in France, in New York, etc. They “cannot even see the poor.” They cannot open their ears to the cries of the poor… but that is why “you are here” alive and well today because God has chosen you! Today, open your eyes. Open your ears to the cries. Open your hand and your heart “wide,” because that’s where the great blessings come from! Have a wonderful day, blessing someone who is poor!
