Word from the Mission Field

LORD, I KNOW WHAT I’M DOING!

“And the men took of their victuals, and asked not counsel at the mouth of Lord.” Joshua 9:14

Please go back if you haven’t read Sherry’s post from yesterday morning. What an amazing story! It’s so easy to go and do things quickly without asking the Lord for his guidance. Some of you are in a difficult position today because you did not ask of the Lord first.

When Sherry and I were first married we had bought a brand-new pick-up truck. (The repo man was always looking for it!) We had an invitation for me to preach in a very small African American church. I told Sherry, “I better park the truck on the side of the church, instead of the front of the church, because if they saw our new truck, they may not give a good offering.”

I preached that night. Some came to the Lord. Well, the offering was $10.25. We were thankful… I told Sherry, “I’m going to drive the truck out the back of the church because if I drove out the front they may see our new truck.” As I took off, the spirit of the Lord told me “to drive out of the front of the church, not the back.” The spirit spoke to me three times. I said, “Lord I know what I’m doing.”

I’m heading out the back way of the church on a very dark night. I did not know that a “dragline” had dug a big, wide, deep ditch across the whole backside of the church! All of a sudden, we hit mid-air and our new truck went headfirst into the big wide deep ditch!! I knew that I should have gone out the front way, like the spirit of the Lord told me!

All the church folks came running out to see what had happened! It’s best not to say, “Lord I know what I’m doing! Let’s ask counsel of the Lord.”
