Word from the Mission Field

“Fear Not!”

Someone once said that the “greatest thing we have to fear is fear itself.” I never really understood the meaning of the “spirit of fear” until we moved to Haiti. I have come to find out that Haitians are full of fear. They fear the witchdoctor, an evil spell. If someone gets sick, it is “because someone put a spell on them.” They begin to believe this so strongly that the person often dies. They worry so much that they become sick and die because of the fear.

2 Timothy 1:7 says, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” God tells us that there is a “spirit of fear.” You know when it is trying to overcome you. You cannot think of anything else, but we must realize this is a “spirit” of “fear.”

We understand that there is a great pandemic sweeping the world… the coronavirus. We do all that we can, but we know that God is our only hope! No matter what, we must take precautions and never be foolish. But we must know that we cannot “fear.” Fear can actually attack the organs of our bodies and make us sick.

Job said, “For the thing which I greatly feared is come upon me…” (Job 3:25)

Right now, in Haiti, the Haitians are so afraid of the virus that the Voodoo Temples are filling up and the witchdoctors are making money while the poor remain hungry and live in fear! “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee!” (Psalm 56:3)

Today will be a great day because the Lord is on your side!

DO NOT FEAR!
