Word from the Mission Field: 4-10-19 6:00 AM

“Our Great Invisible God.”

When I was 17 and dating Bobby, he had “one thing on his mind,” (besides me!) God had told him to fast and pray on nothing but water for 21 days. The entire time I was engaged to him, he was always trying to go on that fast. We never “went to a movie or out to dinner.” His old junk car had broken down, and he would “skip school and go to the orange groves,” and fast and pray. He would go one, two, or three days, and then quit. This went on until we were married for several years. One day, someone “loaned us” a shack rental for Bobby to seek God in. It was cold, and Bobby only had a kerosene lantern that “smoked” thick black fumes. Rats would come out each night and crawl in bed with him to keep warm… he was killing them with a broom! We were past “flat broke.”

During those days he thought he would feel “so close to God,” but like Job, God seemed to be a million miles away. We had no money. We were broke, and when you are fasting you feel as though you have no friends. It is the loneliest thing in the world. Bobby said that he felt that “God was a million miles away.” Like Job, he felt the same thing… “Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him: On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him.” (Job 23:8-9) This is where “faith comes in…” not when you are sitting in a packed-out church, and the music is great, and everyone is praising God! No. It’s in your “lonely time” when you are facing those trials that your “faith” kicks in!

This is where the “for we walk by faith, not by sight” comes in. (II Corinthians 5:7) But you, like Job, have faith in our “Great Invisible God!”

“My foot hath held his steps, his way have I kept, and not declined [gone back].” (Job 23:11)

Bobby learned one thing on his fast… the just shall “walk by faith, not by sight.” He is our “Great Invisible God.” Have a wonderful day! (And if you have not yet received our book, “Love Is Something You Do,” ask for it.) We serve a “Great Invisible God, by faith!” Sherry
