Word from the Mission Field: 4-28-19 6:00 AM

“And He must needs go through Samaria.” John 4:4

Jesus had just left Judah and “felt led to go to Samaria.” Bible scholars say that this trip took him days and by the time he had arrived, he was tired, thirsty, and hungry. He comes to Jacob’s well… a Samaritan woman came to the well.

In those days, the Samaritans were hated by the Jewish people. They considered them “dogs.” A Jewish man was not to look at or speak to a woman, at all… but here we see Jesus, sitting on the well. He is on a “mission” to one woman… He speaks to her, “Give me to drink,” and she answers, “How is it that you ask me a drink, and I am a woman and a Samaritan, and the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritan.”

Jesus goes on to talk to her about “living water…” and He says, “go call your husband.” (Jesus already knew that she “had five husbands,” and the one she had now, “was not her husband.”)  Some would have called her a prostitute. She was despised… but Jesus made this three-day trip on foot, for “one woman,” who was considered the “scum” of the earth. She was not a Sunday school teacher… she was not a pastor’s wife. She was a Samaritan and considered a “loose woman.”

Then, at the end of the conversation, she talks about the “Christ” who is to come… and Jesus answers, “I that speak unto thee, is He!”

Wow! What a Savior! He is never too busy. He stoops down low and brings the “lowest highest!” He “is” THE BREAD OF LIFE and the WATER OF LIFE, and He is “Never Too Busy” to hear your cry. Don’t ever think that you are “bothering the Lord,” by your prayers! Keep on knocking!!! He is there and “never too busy!” Have a great day! Sherry
