Word from the Mission Field

Abigail’s Prayer…

David had been running from Saul for quite a long time. He had taken his 400 brave men into the wilderness with him. They were hiding from King Saul. David heard that a man named, “Nabal,” (a wicked, mean, rich man) was sheering his sheep nearby, and Nabal owed David a favor. David and his small army were hungry, so David sent a few men to Nabal to see if he could give David any food or provisions for his men. But instead of giving, Nabal scorned David, who is running from King Saul and doesn’t give him anything. Now, David is furious because David’s men had always protected Nabal’s sheepherders and never let anyone harm them. David rode fast and furious to kill this wicked man and all “men” who follow him!

Abigail, a beautiful young, intelligent woman, was the wife of wicked Nabal. She knew to “reward good for evil,” and she ran and prepared a lot of food, meat, raisins, wine, bread, etc. for all of David’s men. She loaded it on donkeys. When they approached David and his men with all of the food before them, she got down and bowed her face to the ground, asked forgiveness for her husband, who was a “devil,” the son of Belial!

Then, she prayed this prayer over David… “The soul of my lord shall be bound in the ‘bundle of life’ with the Lord thy God; and the souls of thine enemies, them shall he sling out, as out of the middle of a sling!” (1 Samuel 25:29)

I love these two thoughts of prayer and will pass them on to you… “Your soul […] shall be bound in the ‘bundle of life’ with the Lord thy God” and God will sling out “the souls of thine enemies, [like a] slingshot!” These are two great things that we pray will come upon you… Let God “sling out those enemies,” like a slingshot and “bind up your soul, in His bundle of life!!” That’s a great place to be!!!

Have a wonderful day! Sherry
