Small Beginnings.
“For who hath despised the day of small beginnings?” Zechariah 4:10
Unfortunately, many people who are called of God to do something “great,” don’t want to start with something “small.” Maybe it’s an “ego thing,” but we have seen it time and time again, especially in the ministry.
When Bobby and I were called to the Lord’s work, He knew that one day, we would be ministering to the Haitian people, a people very complex whose roots were from Africa. We began on a humble street in the African American section of Merritt Island, Florida, in a housing project. One sweet black sister, Sister Baber, let us run our microphone cord through her window. We got a soapbox and borrowed chairs from the local funeral home, and with no money, a baby and a toddler, we began our ministry, and we loved it! Little did we know that one day we would be living in Haiti as full-time missionaries.
We had a friend in the ministry, who had more talent than we did. He could sing, was anointed to play the organ, and had a lot of other great qualities, but he was not doing what God had called him to do… somehow, he wanted to “start big,” instead of starting small. One day we said to him, “You have so much talent and you have the anointing to preach and you love people, why don’t you start pastoring a small church and let God build it?” He replied, “I would if God would give me a church with 1,000 people in it to start, I would do it.” God never gave him that… because he didn’t want to start small.
Moses started taking care of sheep, and God gave him 1,000,000 “sheep” to lead out of Egypt. David started with a sling, and ended up a great warrior, with a sword in his hand. Today, don’t be ashamed to do “something small,” or even “give something small.” God is just testing you so that He can give you “something big!” Yes! Have a great day, Sherry
