Word from the Mission Field

“Your “Leftovers” or “Your Best …”

Bobby and I have been working in the ministry for many years. We have done “street evangelism,” ministered in auditoriums, churches, tent crusades, and then, moved to Haiti. We have seen all kinds of “offerings.” Many times, people are asked to give a “sacrificial offering,” but they just give something “leftover,” to ease their conscience.

People have sent things to us to Haiti, i.e. plates that still had “food dried on them, t-shirts that have stains and are torn, and clothing that has been mildewed and rats have peed on them.” Yet, there are those who send nice, clean items, and those that make little dresses for the children, and many buy “new clothes” that are on sale. Some little grandmas carefully fold nice, clean little t-shirts and other items for the children… They take great pride in their “sacrifice.”

I read a story in the Bible about King David… II Samuel 24:24- King David was on his way to build an altar to the Lord and offer a “sacrifice.” He arrived at the threshingfloor of a man named Araunah, a Jebusite. When this man saw King David, he bowed to the ground and asked what the King needed. David replied, that he had come to sacrifice to the Lord.

Araunah told the King that David could have anything he needed for the sacrifice, oxen, threshingfloor instruments, and anything else he needed… He told the King, “whatever you need, take it and offer your sacrifice.”

Here was David’s reply, “Nay: but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God, of that which doeth cost me nothing.” So, David bought the threshingfloor and oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

A “sacrifice,” is precious in the eyes of the Lord… that’s why Jesus talked about the little widow woman who gave her last two mites; Jesus said, “she had given more than the rest.”

No matter what you are doing or giving, always give God your best and He will give you “His Best!” Have a great day! Sherry
