Word from the Mission Field

When Your Foot Slips

“When I said, My foot slippeth; thy mercy, O Lord, held me up.” – Psalms 94:18

We have all been on “thin ice” at some time in our lives. Maybe your “thin ice” was when you found yourself in a dangerous situation or something that God got you out of! We have all been on “thin ice” at some time in our lives and the Lord has always been there to take care of us.

I remember one time in Haiti (I have told this story before because it is as real to me today as it was many years ago),  I had driven out to Savaan Pit in the mountains, where we have a school and church. We had not been living in Haiti long, so I had taken an interpreter with me. I had driven four-wheel-drive vehicles through the mountains and was not afraid, but this time, I had “bald tires” and no spare.

We made it to our Savaan Pit school okay, but leaving we had to cross a river.  Again, my tires were “bald, bald, bald” because we had no money to get new tires. When I came out of the river, I had to climb hairpin curves up the mountain to get to the top, but my slick, wet, and very bald tires didn’t make it.

When I started climbing up in four-wheel-drive, I almost got to the top of the second-highest part and began to slip back toward the cliff! I was so scared, and so was my Haitian interpreter. We hung on the edge of the cliff and were afraid to move! One bad move would have sent us over! All of a sudden, out of nowhere, a group of Haitian men climbed up from the side of the mountain, and pushed my truck up over the edge! I hit the gas pedal and went flying up the mountain! I glanced in the mirror on my way up, because I knew the men would be running behind me to get a tip. However, there were no men in sight, they had disappeared!

I really believe the Lord had sent His angels (Haitian angels) at just that time when my “foot slipped” and I needed a miracle! God always has “you” in mind! When your foot begins to slip, His hand of mercy will reach right down to pick you up!

What a God we serve!

Have a wonderful day!
