“Maybe it Doesn’t Fit!”

“And Saul armed David with his armour, and he put a helmet of brass upon his head; also he armed him with a coat of mail. And David girded his sword upon his armour, and he assayed, (tried) to go; for he had not proved it. And David said to Saul, I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them. And David put them off him.” I Samuel 17:38-39

We cannot possibly know the real meaning of these verses. In the first place, Saul was taller than any of the Israelites, “head and shoulders.” He was a “big man!” David was a teenager… much smaller than Saul. I can imagine that David didn’t want to even try on the armour, but probably did it to please Saul. After all, how in the world could David have “run toward the giant” with this heavy armour hanging on him? And, he couldn’t have “swung his arm,” to hurl that stone! And, his helmet probably covered his face, so how could he even see the target, “the forehead of Goliath?”

Sometimes, people try to get us to “put on someone’s armour,” but “maybe it just doesn’t fit!” There have been some people who wanted to come to Haiti, but “the armour just didn’t fit.” The Haitians didn’t like them and they were out of touch with the needs of the poor… God has a special plan, a special purpose for you. Even if it looks small, just do it. But, don’t ever try to put on someone else’s “armour.” God wants “you” to be “you!” Have a great day! Sherry
