Word from the Mission Field

In 1 Samuel 22:1-2, David is hiding from wicked King Saul… He cannot kill Saul, because “he cannot touch God’s anointed.” So, he must hide from him because he cannot take Saul’s life. However, King Saul is out to kill David… “David therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father’s house heard it, they went down thither to him. And every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became a captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.” Four hundred people came to be with David because they were distressed, in fear, discouraged, and never knew what would happen next…

A few years ago, Hurricane Matthew hit south Haiti and the surrounding areas with terrific force. We spent weeks taking food, clothing, and tarps to the people. We also conducted Mobile Medical Clinics and gave out clothes, blankets, Bibles, etc. We found 50 families that were living in a “cave” back in the mountains of Haiti in an area called Fond Rouge. Bobby went there with a few close friends. He had to get down on his knees and crawl to enter the cave because you could not stand up to get inside. Bobby was so claustrophobic inside the cave. It was so low that after you crawled inside you could only sit on the ground. You could not stand up because the cave ceiling was so low! There were so many people there. We found out that they had always “come to the cave” for years to pray and fast. And when the hurricane hit, and everything was wiped out, all of the people “fled to the cave” for safety. They all lived there for weeks, praying and seeking God… Until one day, Bobby and his friends arrived, and he and the others put their love together, and we all built every family a nice house, with furniture, garden tools, and much more! Today, those same families are happy, growing gardens, and living in their new home!

Jesus is our “cave.” He is our “hiding place.” He knows how to heal our pain, our discouragement, and how to get us “back up on our feet!” Today, if you are discouraged, sad, sick, or heartbroken, then “go to the cave!” Hide yourself in Jesus! If you do this, He will bring you forth out of your darkness with blessings!!! Have a wonderful, Jesus-filled day! Sherry
