Word from the Mission Field

Wait Upon the Lord…”

Have you ever tried to “hurry God up” or “help God out?” The hardest thing to do sometimes is to “wait upon the Lord.” His timing is not “our timing,” but He is always “on time.

In I Samuel 10:8, Saul had just been anointed King of Israel by the Prophet Samuel…Samuel had poured oil on Saul‘s head and then told Saul where to find his lost mules that he had been looking for. Then Samuel said, “And thou shalt go down before me in Gilgal; and, behold I will come down unto thee to offer burnt offerings, and to sacrifice sacrifices of peace offerings; seven days shalt thou tarry, till I come to thee, and show thee what thou shalt do.” (I Samuel 10:7)

But just as the seventh day came, Saul got impatient and did not want to wait, so he made the sacrifices by himself. As soon as he finished the sacrifice, the Prophet Samuel showed up, angrily, saying, “What have you done? I told you to wait for me.” Because King Saul had gotten impatient, tried to help God out, sacrificed animals, and did not wait on the Prophet Samuel, he failed the test!

That one act of disobedience and impatience cost him the kingdom. Samuel prophesied it would be taken from him and given to someone else (David).

Psalm 27:14 says, “Wait on the Lordbe of good courage: and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.”

Today, don’t get in a hurry. The Lord may be “four days late,” but He’s always on time!
