Word from the Mission Field

“And Jesus stood still…” Mark 10:49

No one had ever paid much attention to him. He lay at the roadside at the entrance to Jericho, begging for a living. He was only known as “blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus.” He was just outside Jericho, when he heard a huge crowd of people coming his way. Someone told him, “It was Jesus of Nazarus,” passing by. He heard of the miracles, but he never had anyone to take him to his “crusade.” But now was his chance. As the huge crowd passed by, he yelled loudly, above the crowd, “Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me!” Everyone told him to “shut up,” “be quiet” … but, “he yelled even louder” … “Jesus, thou son of David, have mercy on me!” All of a sudden, “Jesus stood still.” The people around him said, “Be of good comfort, get up! He’s calling for you!” He “threw off” his beggar garment and made his way towards Jesus. Jesus asked him, “What wilt thou that should do unto thee?” (But Jesus already knew the answer). “Lord, that I may receive my sight.” Jesus said, “Go thy way. Thy faith hath made thee whole!” Like the little woman in the Bible with an “issue of blood,” who “touched his garment by faith…” and, “like Peter,” who said, “Lord, if it’s you, bid me come to thee on the water,” and like all the great miracles we know of… faith is action. Faith never stands still and doesn’t “feel sorry.” Faith says, “I’ve got to do something that will get Jesus’ attention!” Today, no matter what your situation is, do something that will take a step of faith… and your miracle is on the way!
