“A Tool and A Weapon.”
In the Book of Nehemiah, Chapter Four, God’s people were building up the walls of Jerusalem, as the Lord had spoken… but, they had enemies. Some enemies were afraid and some enemies were jealous. Just because God tells you to do something, “that doesn’t mean you are going to have things easy.” Some people will be afraid of you and some people will be jealous of you!
“But it came to pass that when Sanballat (a governor under the king of Persia) heard that we builded the wall, he was wroth and took great indignation, and mocked the Jews.” Nehemiah 4:1
“And they (the governors under the king of Persia) conspired against Jerusalem and to hinder it.” Nehemiah 4:8
Nehemiah said, “Therefore, set I, in the lower places behind the wall, and on the higher places, I even set the people after their families with their swords, their spears, and their bows.” Nehemiah 4:13
Even while they were working on the wall, the enemy came at them… “They which builded on the wall, and they that bare burdens, with those that laded (carried burdens) every one with one of his hands, wrought in the work, and with the other hand, held a weapon.” Nehemiah 4:17
They kept on working! They held a tool in one hand and kept on working, but with the other hand, they held a weapon! “Just Because God tells you to do something, that doesn’t mean you won’t have enemies.” In fact, when God tells you to do something, you will always have enemies! So keep on fighting the good fight, keep on working, and keep on doing what God told you to do… keep on working and use the tool that God has given you, but always hold on to your “weapon of faith!” Don’t let anything stop you!!!
