Word from the Mission Field

The Price of Disobedience…

Some Christians don’t want to obey when God speaks to their heart to do something.

Years ago, we had a great burden to have a Missionary Training Center here in Haiti. I worked hard on the curriculum and I thought of all the wisdom that “seasoned missionaries,” could pour into someone new. We had everything set up and had “the perfect couple.”  (He had been delivered from drugs and had such a sweet spirit.) We really loved this couple. But, just a short time before opening, the man said to us, “This is not for us. We’re called to go to PA, and help in a church!” I could hardly talk! I was crushed. I cried so hard. My missionary friend called the young man on the phone, crying, begging, and pleading for them to stay. We knew his young wife wanted to stay, but the “spirit of disobedience” was on him. They took off and went to the church. The young missionary man met up with another young man on drugs. The ex-missionary became so violent with his wife, and she had to divorce him. She later married another young man who is helping her to raise her beautiful daughter. They are happy.

The young man, who disobeyed, tried to come back to Haiti and work with us but he was so deep on drugs, he could not function. “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to harken, than the fat of rams (or sacrifices).” I Samuel 15: 22-23

God wants your obedience, more than your sacrifices.

Blessings, Sherry
