“For such a time as this…”
I love the story of Esther and the book of Esther… What an amazing story of how God “puts us in certain situations,” so that we can be a blessing. We may not realize it at the time, but we are and have been moved around to certain positions to do certain things, to bless someone else, or so that we can be blessed.
The book of Esther tells a story of how an evil man, “Haman,” set a trap to kill all of the Jews. Esther, the niece of Mordecai, a Godly Jewish leader, had chosen to become the “wife” of King Ahasuerus, who was over all the land of Persia, from India to Ethiopia.
Mordecai, her uncle, told her to “go before the king” and ask for the lives of the people. She was fearful to do this because “no one could come before, even his wife,” unless he held the “golden scepter” towards that person. Esther was terrified because the king did not yet know that she was Jewish. Her uncle, Mordecai, told her, “Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom ‘for such a time as this?’” (Esther 4:14) You may know the great story of how God used Esther to save her Jewish people…
It was January 10, 2010… We had just finished buying food at the Caribbean Market and headed back to Love A Child. It was a few hours when we heard the rumbling of the 7.1 magnitude earthquake rumbling towards us like the full force of a train! The Caribbean Market, where we had just bought food, was smashed to the ground and everyone inside was dying. At that time, we had a pickup truck and one other “barely-running truck.” We took our pickup truck and headed to the worst area where people were laying on the ground with arms and legs missing. Little children were buried under the rubble along with their parents, and we were loading “broken bodies” into our trucks and taking them back to Love A Child. From there, many had to be sent across the border to the Dominican Republic. We were so stressed out, heart-broken, and even had nightmares about the earthquake. But those that we had sought out and brought to our clinic, a great number, slept in tents on our property for six months while doctors and nurses cared for them. They received operations, medical care, and food that we cooked for them. Many of them “work for us” today. Who would have thought that God kept us alive “for such a time as this?”
You are alive today “for such a time as this,” because God still has a plan for your life. You are in “God’s plan… FOR SUCH A TIME AS THIS.” Sherry
