Word from the Mission Field

“Do Good Anyway…”

We all know the story of the ten lepers that Jesus healed. In Luke 17:11-19, we see Jesus and His disciples passing through Samaria when He comes upon ten lepers. They knew they were not allowed to come close to anyone, so they stood afar off at a great distance. All at once, they lifted their voices and cried, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.” And when Jesus saw them, He said, “Go show yourselves to the priest.” That meant they were cleansed! And as it came to pass, that as they went, they were cleansed. Imagine, as they were walking, their hands and legs and faces, which were partly missing due to leprosy, immediately began to have real new flesh come upon their bodies! You would have thought that everyone would “stop in their tracks and immediately turned around and run back to Jesus, to say, “thank you.” But, only one came back.

Jesus said, “Were not ten cleansed? But, where are the nine?”

That’s how it is sometimes. We can “think” that someone will come back and say “thank you,” but this rarely happens. Then, we begin to lose the desire to help people. We even feel sorry for “ourselves” because they did not say “thank you.”

A friend of ours reminded us today of what Mother Theresa said…”The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow. Do good anyway.” – Mother Teresa.

I just love that! Whether they appreciate it or whether they say “thank you,” or whether they do nothing, “do good anyway!” We are all so blessed that Mother Teresa has been such a wonderful example of how to “treat the poor.”

Have a good day, and “do good anyway!”
