Word from the Mission Field

“Outnumbered!”

“So, you think YOU have an enemy?” Maybe God’s not big enough to conquer that one? Well, He is! Read Isaiah 36-37.

The great fearful King of Assyria, King Sennacherib, had just conquered and taken over Judah. Now, he was setting his eyes on Jerusalem. So, the King of Assyria sent one of his goons, Rabshakeh, to Jerusalem, with a “great army.” He sent a message to King Hezekiah of Jerusalem, to threaten them, and “make them afraid.” Remember, fear is always a weapon from the enemy.

Rabshakeh yells to five of Hezekiah’s most faithful men and says, “I have the strength for war!  Who are you going to depend on, to help you, Egypt? No, Egypt can’t help you. Your God, no, your God can’t help you. But, you need to surrender to me. Even if I gave you 2,000 horses for battle, you wouldn’t have 2,000 soldiers to ride on them!” In other words, he said, “surrender to me and you can become my slaves and I will carry you away to another land.”

Hezekiah’s men went to give the message and they arrived before King Hezekiah with their “clothes rent.” This was serious! Sometimes, we think we have a problem, and we are “outnumbered” but we are only outnumbered when fear takes over. Hezekiah “rent his clothes” and laid before the Lord in prayer and this was God’s answer (I love this!)… “He, (King Sennacherib), shall not come into this city; nor shoot an arrow there, no come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, thus saith the Lord.”

And the Angel of the Lord went forth and smote in the camp of the Assyrians, 185,000! And when they (Hezekiah’s people) arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses! You are not “outnumbered” today! God is on your side! Just go ahead and praise Him ahead of time! You have already won!
