Word from the Mission Field

“Turn your face to the wall…” (part two)

Yesterday, we heard how King Hezekiah was given the “death sentence” by the Prophet Isaiah… this message is for someone who is facing a great battle.

It was 1996… Bobby and I had flown into the States for a doctor’s appointment. I had noticed a mole on Bobby that had turned “suspiciously black.” I had finally convinced him to go to the doctor. We had no insurance and could barely pay for the doctor’s appointment. We waited for the test results and got the phone call… “Mr. Burnette, the doctor wants to see you.” That’s usually bad news… and it was. Bobby had “melanoma cancer, stage three.” As I stood there, I could not believe what I was hearing. We had hopes and dreams for Haiti, to help the poor, even though we were flat broke. I remember Bobby saying, “Doc, just tell me the truth. How long do I have to live? A year?” The doctor said, “Maybe six months.” We were flat broke, had checks bouncing, and had just received a death message. I thought I would pass out. Then the doctor said, “I have to operate. Do you have insurance?” We said, “No.” The doctor replied, “Well then, I’ll have to do it in my office.” He performed the largest cancer operation that he had ever done in his office. We had to wait for the results. We “turned our face to the wall and cried unto the Lord.” Days went by, and Bobby decided to sit in his rocking chair and pray… he let me go and get the results.

I came through the door, shaking, with the paper in my hand. Bobby said, “Sherry, you don’t have to tell me. The cancer is gone. When you left, the wind of the Holy Spirit came over me and blew on me. I knew I was healed!” Today, if you are facing an illness or a battle, do what King Hezekiah did… “turn your face to the wall and call upon the Lord!” He never sleeps. He’s on call 24/7 and ready to hear your heart’s cry. Have a blessed day! Bobby and Sherry
