Word from the Mission Field

“Ask for a Big Thing!”

II Kings 13:14, Elisha the great Prophet, respected by everyone, is sick and getting ready to die. Everyone has depended on his “words from the Lord,” even Joash, King of Israel. Joash now hears that Elisha is dying, and he hurries to his bedside, crying. Elisha says, “Take bows and arrows and put thine hand upon the bow, and Elisha put his hands on the king’s hands.” God was getting ready to do a big thing!

Elisha tells him to “open the window eastward…” and shoot “the arrow of the Lord’s deliverance.” The king does so, and Elisha prophecies that God will deliver Syrians into his hand until they are “consumed.” But, there is a catch. How badly does the king want this? Elisha tells the King to “take the arrows …” and “smite upon the ground.”

The king does this three times, and Elisha is so angry at him!!!  He said, “Thou shouldest smitten five or six times, then hadst smitten Syria till thou hadst consumed it” God wanted the king to “ask for a big thing!” He wanted the king to take arrows and beat the ground a whole lot more until there would not be any Syrians left!

Today, you have a need…but don’t just ask God for “enough to get by.” God is bigger than that! Ask God for a big thing,” because He is a BIG GOD!!!! Don’t forget this when you pray! Have a great day!
