“Ye are the salt of the earth.” Matthew 5:13
What powerful words of our Lord Jesus Christ! Why would He refer to His people as “salt?” I love putting salt and pepper on my food. I probably put too much! But, without salt, to me, I don’t even like to eat it. Salt is a powerful substance. It enhances our food; it can be used to draw water out of food; it has medicinal purposes; it creates traction on icy roads, but one of the most important things it does, is to preserve. They use salt here in Haiti to preserve food when they don’t have refrigeration. Jesus said, “We are the salt of the earth.” (We are the preservatives of the earth because the Spirit of God is in us!) Jesus goes on to say, “but if the salt has lost its savor, (taste) wherewith shall it be salted? (What is it good for, then?) It is good for nothing but to be cast out and trodden under the foot of men. You are “salt.” You serve a purpose! Without you, without God’s people, the world would be in a mess. Always keep your “salty flavor.” Never become “diluted” with things of the world. When we do this, we lose our “saltiness.” You are the “salt of the earth!” “When you enter a room, you add salt to a drab, pathetic, sinking world.” You are important to the Lord! God bless you and have a great day! Sherry
