Word from the Mission Field

“The Lord looks inward, while man looks outward. For the Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the Lord looketh on the heart.” I Samuel 16:7

In Luke Chapter 7, Jesus is invited to eat at the house of a Pharisee. While Jesus was there, a woman in the city (a “former” prostitute) brought in an alabaster box of expensive ointment. The Bible says that “she stood at His feet behind Him, and began to wash His feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head (her long hair), and kissed His feet, and anointed them with the ointment.” Verses 37-38

She had been in touch with Jesus, who had forgiven her of all her sins, and picked up her from the pigpen. She cried so hard, that she shed so many tears, that she used her hair to “wash His feet with her tears.” Then, she anointed the Lord’s feet with her expensive oil in that “alabaster box.” Meanwhile, the “religious people” began to condemn her. What a priceless gift she gave that day, while others looked at her with condemnation, Jesus knew why she did it. She did it with a thankful heart, of course, but I believe he knew somehow, that Jesus was going to die and this was her “last gift” she could give.

How often are we quick to condemn someone when we don’t know the whole story? I have been quite guilty of this too, and so have you. We must always realize that “God doesn’t look on the outside, but He looks on the heart!” Have a great day, Sherry
