Word from the Mission Field

“Leftovers…”

When I was small, my father was out of work many times. Most of it was due to his drinking, so with five kids my mother had to “make do.” There were many times when all we had were the “leftovers of the leftovers.” That wasn’t bad, but my mother never would throw anything away, not even if it was a one-half cup of something that was several days old. She just hated to throw it away… bless her heart.

Through my years of serving the Lord, I have seen that many people give God “leftovers.” The Lord blesses them, and they might manage a “thank you” now and then. They buy something expensive they don’t need, but yet, they can’t pay their tithe… they give God “leftovers.” Wouldn’t it be horrible if God gave us “His leftovers…?”

“Well, I see you are sick and dying, but I will try to get to you as soon as I can…”
“You can’t pay the electricity? Then get a candle.”
“You are believing in God for a new house? There’s one down the street that used to be a crack house… maybe you can fix that up.”

How would you feel if the Lord said this? I have asked many people to send in new or “good used clothes” for the poor. If it is clean, they will love it!! But I am shocked that some people would send in things that have “roach droppings” in the box, or a “mustard stain” on a T-shirt that won’t wash out! Once, we opened a box marked “dishes” and so many roaches ran out that we had to call the bug man!

“What if the Lord treated us like we treat Him?”

But He says, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Let’s always give God our best and He will give us “His Best!” Have a wonderful day. Sherry
