“He That Winneth Souls is Wise.”

In many churches nowadays, some have become so commercialized they have forgotten how to win the lost to Jesus. They may think that a million-dollar church or a rock band will entice the lost to come to Jesus… but sometimes, it takes more than that. When I was a child, my father was an alcoholic, and we were very poor. But my mother made sure that all five of us kids went to church…  a little country church.

“Pastor Ray,” was kind and persistent. He wanted “Sam,” my father to come to church. My father always had an excuse, but the one he usually used was, “I don’t have any clothes. I only have overalls (work pants).” Pastor Ray said, “Sam if you come to church Sunday, I promise you that no one on the platform will be dressed better than you.” So, my father came to church with us that Sunday. To his surprise, the deacons, the ushers, and even the pastor were all dressed in “overalls!” It so deeply touched my father that he started coming to church! The Bible says, “He that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30

It takes more than a beautiful church or anything else we can buy or do… It takes wisdom, love, and patience, and the drawing of the Holy Spirit. Have a blessed day.
