Word from the Mission Field

“When I see the blood…”

It’s a song that I have heard in many different churches for years and years… I heard them singing this song in Creole here in Haiti… “When I see the blood… I will pass over you.” We forget the importance of “being covered by the blood of Jesus,” because churches don’t stress it anymore. They are too involved with their “minute-by-minute” programs. But this song has a lot of meaning.

In Exodus 12, God is preparing the Israelites for leaving Egypt. Nine plagues have been sent by God to warn Pharaoh that he must “let his people go from bondage.” But each time, Pharoah’s heart was hardened, and he would say that they could go, and then change his mind. But in Exodus 12, the last plague is coming, and God is warning His people to “be under the blood.” They are to kill a spotless lamb and spread the blood over the doorposts and then on each side of the door. The angel of God will come by and smite each first-born son, including Pharoah’s, but the Lord said, “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” He also told His people to put their clothes on, put their sandals on their feet, grab their staff in their hands, and pack some “unleavened bread,” because they wouldn’t have time for it to rise. They were to “get ready to go!” That night, the death angel passed over the Egyptians and killed every first-born son, but when the angel passed over the “blood” on the doors of God’s people, they were saved!

Today, if you are running from your “Pharaoh,” and you have a worry on your mind, ask the Lord to “cover you with His blood!” He may even tell you “it’s time to move on,” but regardless of your situation, the blood of Jesus is the best hiding place. We are in Haiti now, where gangs have taken over and killed the president and his wife in their bedroom! The Embassy has asked Americans to leave! Everyone here is afraid, but we at Love A Child remain because we “are covered with the blood of Jesus!” He is our “divine protection!”
