Word from the Mission Field

“Not my will, but thine, be done.” Luke 22:42

Jesus kneeled down and prayed this prayer right before He was crucified, “Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me; nevertheless, not my will, but thine, be done.” This is so much different than 1 Samuel 8th chapter, where we see “Israel” demanding that God give them a king. “Everyone else has a king. Why can’t we be like everyone else?” They did not want “God’s will,” or “God’s way.” They wanted their “own will” and “their own way.” So, after the Lord warned them how this king would treat them, by taking their crops, their sons and daughters, and their servants, and everything. “Nevertheless, the people refused to obey the voice of the Lord.” Isn’t that just like us, sometimes? We pray but we don’t want “God’s will.” We want “our will” to be done. And, “our way,” is never the “right way.” Right now, as you are in the valley of decision, and you begin to pray, remember to say, “Nevertheless, Lord, not my will, but thine will be done.” If you do this, the Lord will lead you and bless you and show the “best way.” Bobby and Sherry
