Word from the Mission Field

“In the Palms of His Hands.”

Have you ever felt “far away” from God? There are times in our lives when God seems like He is a million miles away. When Bobby and I were preaching on the street corners of Merritt Island and Cocoa, Florida (years ago), he decided to go on a long fast… “21 days – on water only.” We were “very poor,” and had a baby and a toddler. Bobby needed a “place to seek God,” and someone lent us a shack. It was winter time, and all Bobby had to keep warm was a kerosene heater that smoked very badly. He was cold, hungry and broke… and you can’t get much worse off than that… except that his place was full of rats. He would have to take a broom and try to kill them every night!

You would think that anyone who had “stayed alone with God, fasting and praying” would feel that “they have never been closer to Him.” Wrong. Bobby told me “he had felt that God was a million miles away.” In fact, sometimes fighting the hunger, he really doubted that God cared about him or knew where he was.

The scripture says, “Behold, I have graven thee upon the palms of my hands.” – Isaiah 49:16

If God were to show up and hold up His hands, your name would stick out! He also said, “thy walls are continually before me…” Or, like the country-western song, “You are always on my mind!” God can’t forget about you… Your name is on His palms and “you are always on His mind.” He loves you so much!  Sherry
