“A Lion, A Bear, A Giant…” 1 Samuel 17:34-37

It is the story in the Bible everyone knows, a small teenaged sheep-herder named David (the youngest child of a family), sees Goliath, a giant, threatening God’s people and mocking the God of Israel. They bring David before King Saul, and David says unto Saul, “Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion and a bear and took a lamb out of the flock: and I went after him and smote him… and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard and smote him, and slew him… and this uncircumcised Philistine, (Goliath) shall be as one of them…”

This is the first time we have heard that David “slew a lion and bear.” He never told his father or his brothers. GOD SENT THE LION AND BEAR TO DAVID! Who do you know that could take a lamb out of the mouth of a lion or a bear and kill both with a slingshot? This isn’t just a Bible story; it is a miracle!

After “practicing” on the lion and bear, God sent the giant! And that was just the beginning. David became a “mighty warrior!” God has no “sissies” in His army! He makes us “tough” because he loves us! He starts with small battles and then moves up to bigger battles, but He will never let us take on “more than we can bear.” So, if you feel like you are facing a lion today, or a bear, or a giant, just know that God is making you tough because He loves you.

Bobby and I have faced many, many things here in Haiti over the last 30 years. He has let us go through things to make us “tough” because He knows that we stay in the battle! Know that “God has confidence in you, and He is always on your side!”
