“What to do when I’m afraid…”
Ever been afraid? The Bible says, “fear hath torment.” (1 John 4:18) All of us have faced fear at one time or another… going to the dentist… getting the “report” from the doctor… fear of spiders, rats, insects, loud noises, storms, fear of the future, etc. We have faced many “fears” here in Haiti.
There have been times where we have run into “Voodoo” people and half-crazed angry men with burning tires and gallons of gasoline! We have faced angry mobs of street guys on motorcycles demanding food! We have faced floods through riverbeds that almost carried us away… we had to tie ropes around our waists to keep from being washed away down a river. We have broken down “in the middle of nowhere,” in the mountains of Haiti, having to walk for miles. We’ve faced “nearly going over the side of a mountain in our truck!” Talk about fear? Yes, we know what fear is. It is the “opposite of faith and love.” King David knew fear because he had enemies… “What time I am afraid, I will trust in thee.” (Psalm 56:3)
When our love for God is strong, our love for Him will overcome any fear. Remember, “perfect love casteth out fear.” (1 John 4:18) Just “fall in love with Jesus all over again” and your fears will leave you! Have a great day!
