Word from the Mission Field

“The Potter’s Hands.”

“The Word which came to Jeremiah from the Lord saying, “Arise, and go down to the potter’s house, and there I will cause thee to hear my words… Then I went down to the potter’s house: and behold, he wrought a work on the wheels.”

“And the vessel that he made of clay was marred in the hand of the potter, so he made it again another vessel.” Jeremiah 18:1-4

Aren’t human beings hard to figure out? We pray and ask God for something, so “while He is working things out, we try to “help Him a little,” and we mess things up. Our path seems to take us much longer because we don’t want to listen. We want to do things “our way.”

I have watched some potters working with clay. It is an “art.” The potter puts his hands “on the inside and on the outside” at the same time. All this time, he keeps “squeezing the clay,” to make it pliable and soft. If the clay is too hard, he adds water and more pressure and spends days molding it by his hands, but gently forming it into something of beauty.

That “something” you wanted to do or be years ago, required some work from the “potter.” That “ministry,” or desire of your heart, to be or do something, has not been forgotten… It just means “you are still on the wheel,” and “still in the potter’s hands!”

“Thou art our Father… we are the clay and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.” Isaiah 64:8

You are in the safest place possible… in the hands of the “Potter.” Don’t worry about anything. God’s got this!
