Word from the Mission Field

“I Can’t Even Walk Without Holding His Hand”

Have you ever slipped and almost fell, but someone caught you by the hand? It’s happened to me. I’m sure it has happened to everyone at some time. The mountains of Haiti are so steep. It is hard to climb “up,” but walking down is even harder. There are many thousands of small rocks on loose dirt, and the paths are always “straight down.” When trying to go down, you either need a couple of Haitians helping to hold you, or as one pastor’s wife did, she sat down on her “bottom” and scooted all the way down! I’m sure that at one time or another you have had some “near falls on ice,” until someone caught hold of your hand.

In Mark 5:22, while Jesus is healing many sick, a ruler of the synagogue came to Jesus as He was praying for the people and asked Jesus to come and heal his daughter, who was at the point of death. As Jesus was going, he came upon the woman who “touched the hem of His garment,” and so when he got to the ruler’s house, the people told the ruler of the synagogue that his daughter was dead. But Jesus took the mother and father into the room of the child… “And He took the damsel by the hand, and said unto her, Talitha cumi [Little girl, wake up!]” (Mark 5:41) Jesus took her by the hand!

Colbert and Joyce Croft wrote an old song that I love… “I Can’t Even Walk Without Holding His Hand.” We are still “holding on to the master’s hand,” every minute of the day! We are never too old to hold on to His hand, and “We Can’t Even Walk Without Holding His Hand!” If you haven’t heard of this song, look it up. God bless you and keep “holding on!”
