“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” 1 John 3:17
Years ago, a pastor from the States called us here in Haiti… We were struggling to feed the poor, had broken down junk vehicles in our yard, and didn’t have “a pot to pee in,” as my Grandma would say. I had gone to a remote village, which required “riding a mule.” Bobby was home and got a phone call from this pastor. The pastor was asking where I was and what I was doing. Bobby told him I had gone to a poor village to set up a feeding program and that my team and I were “on mules.” He replied, “Well, you are NOT blessed by God! If you were, your wife would be driving a Mercedes! I just bought my wife a Mercedes.” Then, he proceeded to brag about his wealth. When Bobby invited him to come to Haiti, he said, “If I come, I don’t want to see any poor people.” I don’t understand how anyone can turn his or her back on a poor, hungry child or a poor mother, or anyone without basic necessities, and not have any desire to help. Have a great day, and help someone! Sherry
