“It is well…” 2 Kings 4:26
One of my favorite songs is an old song written in the late 1800’s by a man named Horatio Spafford. He was a lawyer and a wealthy businessman, but he loved and trusted God. He had many investments, a loving wife, four daughters and a young son. He was like “Job” in the Bible. He lost his son at age two because of pneumonia. In 1871, he lost most everything he had in the Great Chicago Fire. A few years later, he began to regain some of the finances. In 1873, he along with his wife and daughters were to make a trip to Europe, but at the last minute, he could not go. During that trip, that boat that his family was on collided with another and his four young daughters drowned. He received a cable from his wife saying, “saved alone.” A short time after, he asked someone to take him to the place where his daughters died. He then, wrote this great and wonderful song… “It is well with my soul.” I heard one of our Haitian workers singing it in French…it brings tears to my eyes because I hope I can sing that when my trial comes. Love, Sherry
