“And the young man went away sorrowful…” (Matthew 19:21-22)
Jesus told this story in chapter 19 in the book of Matthew. He was talking about “riches possess you,” rather than possessing riches. Jesus told the young man, “If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.” It is not a sin to be rich, but it becomes a sin when “riches possess us,” as they did this young man.
