“I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them…” This is what David, the shepherd boy said to King Saul. David, a young man, probably about 17, was about to go out to fight the “nine foot tall” giant, Goliath. Saul had given David his own armor to put on to fight Goliath, but David said, “I cannot go with these; for I have not proved them.” 1 Samuel 17:39
This armor was heavy and David had never worn “someone else’s armor,” but he had used a sling and a stone. He knew they worked, because he had killed a lion and a bear with them (and probably a lot of things). What works for someone else, may not work for you. God has already given you the things you need for the work He has called you to do. You don’t need to use “someone else’s armor!” You have been through trials and “you know what works!” You have used “what God has given you!” If God has given you a “good sling and a stone” that works, that’s all you need!!
