“But whoso hath this world’s good, and seeth his brother have need, and shutteth up his bowels of compassion from him, how dwelleth the love of God in him?” 1 John 3:17 — Living here in Haiti for 26 years has taught us many things. The most important thing is that whatever we have, whatever we own, it is all just “stuff” that can be destroyed in a flood or in a fire or even in an earthquake. We cannot get attached to “things” and love them more than we love the Lord, and the poor. Things that I used to consider valuable like jewelry, expensive shoes, and more are nothing to me now. The priceless things are “seeing a hungry child pick up food with his or her bare hands and catching every grain that falls to the ground with a smile on his or her face.” That is worth it all! “Live simply so that others can simply live.” (Gandhi) Have a blessed day!
