“For who hath despised the day of small things?” Zechariah 4:10 — Everyone wants to start “big.” Not many people want to start “small” and work up to “big.” When the Lord called Bobby to preach when he was 16, Bobby thought he was going to “go around the world and preach.” But the Lord wanted us to start “small” so that we could prove we were faithful. Well, Bobby preached his first message at the Salvation Army. When I married him, we were preaching on the street corners on a soapbox. We had to run our microphone wire through the bedroom of one of our black sisters in the Lord, Sister Mamie Baber. There was no one in the world like her. She stood with us, helped us and encouraged us to “keep on walkin’!” We learned “not to despise small things.” Whatever you want to do for the Lord, do it even if it is small, and if you are faithful, God will bless it and do greater things!
