“It’s Not What You give that Determines the Sacrifice…” Part Two
Luke 21:1-2 “The Widow’s Mite…” A few years ago, some very good friends of ours wanted to pay our way to the Holy Land. It was a dream of a lifetime, and Bobby and I were so eager to learn everything. When we began to talk about the Temple and the “Widow’s Mite,” our guide told us that in the Bible days, the widows had a special place to go. They were not supposed to be in the “giving line” with the rich, but they would be allowed to go around to the back where the priest would give them a little money, seeing they were widows. However, this one widow didn’t want to be in the “receiving end,” but she wanted to be on the “giving end.”
The mite is such a small coin that it has practically no value at all… They were hand-made and no two were alike. Afterward, we went into a jewelry shop where they had a few “original mite coins.” Bobby bought me one and put it on a gold chain. It is my favorite and most valuable possession. It always reminds me that “every sacrificial gift” is of great value, no matter how small it may be. We cannot do “everything,” but all of us can do “something.” Sherry
