“Only One Small Candle…”
“Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.” Matthew 5:15
For the first three years we lived in Haiti, we had practically no electricity. We lived by candlelight. We were so poor we could not afford even a small generator. We were here during the “Embargo” of Haiti, so nighttime brought thieves and dead bodies into the streets. It was a very dangerous time for us. We lived in a house up in the mountains, so we learned to live by candlelight. It was amazing how “just a small candle” could light up a whole room. We really understand what Jesus was saying when He taught in Matthew 5 about “letting our light shine.” We also realized that many people were “watching our lives.” When your light shines, you don’t have to say very much…your actions speak louder than words. Always remember to “let your light shine,” even if it is “one small candle,” because “someone is always watching you,” and you may be the only “light” they have in their lives.
