“Job’s God.” Part One:

His friends came to visit him, after hearing of his loss of everything he had. In the distance, they saw a man, squatting on the ground, his head covered with dirt…every inch of his body was full of boils, from the bottom of his feet to his head, and they had been leaking and oozing. On the ground lay a potsherd (a broken piece of pottery), with which he had been scraping himself. Once the wealthiest man in the east, with some 7,000 sheep, 3000 camels, 500 yoke of oxen, 500 donkeys, a great house and seven children. He was now reduced to ashes, poverty, and rotting flesh.

He was “unrecognizable.” In one single day, the Sabeans took all his oxen and his donkeys; fire from heaven burned his sheep and his servants; the Chaldeans took everything else. At the same time, a “great wind from God,” broke the house where all his older children were, and killed all seven of them! He arose, rent his clothes, shaved his head and fell to the ground and worshipped God. As I read this, tears filled my eyes. He put no blame on God but he “worshipped,” saying, “Blessed be the Name of the Lord.” Think about this and read, “Part Two” for tomorrow’s scripture. Sherry
