You Are Needed, Wanted and Loved!

Imagine being just a toddler and growing up with a name that meant, “I don’t need you,” or even “I don’t want you.”  The kids in the village of Old Letant called him, “Pa Bezouin.” His mother and father were Voodoo priests, and his father probably had “other women.” This young toddler was set outside on his knees in the hot sun every day…and kept company with pigs because he couldn’t stand up or even sit.

He was the “laughingstock” of the children who passed by. Sitting there, on his knees for hours, he looked like a little “tree stump,” motionless. What he endured was unimaginable.

One day, while we were there with a visiting team, I noticed him again. The Lord said to me, “take him home, or he will die.” I walked over and picked him up, and he put his arms around my neck. I asked his mother if we could take him to our orphanage, and I told her, “if we leave him here, he will die.” She agreed. It was probably the first time he ever felt loved.

We brought him home, put him in a crib, and tried to get him to stand by having him hold on to the railings, but he would scream and cry. One day, we brought him a tricycle. He learned to put his hands on the seat and push the tricycle. Then, he sat on the seat and learned to peddle. His legs grew stronger, and soon, he was running, jumping, and playing! He is now ten years and in school. He is very intelligent and loves soccer. He also does “acrobatics” and “somersaults!” He is a remarkable little boy! He loves to dance and loves the church! He wants to be a mechanic!!

All because someone “didn’t pass by on the other side,”
