Zachary is now three. He “almost didn’t survive” the first couple of months of his life because his “Voodoo” mother tried to kill him! We saved his life!

He came to our clinic in the arms of his mother. He was a couple of months old. When our doctor was questioning his mother about her health and the health of her children, she replied that several children had died and one was “missing!” The doctor could sense that she was involved in Voodoo!

Worried about the life of the baby, he asked me and several other nurses to go home with her. When we arrived at her house, two neighbors came out to tell us to “leave her and take the baby or she would kill it!” We took the baby and drove to our orphanage and contacted Haitian Social Services, who told us to keep the baby!

Zachary is three and in Kindergarten! He is doing fine except that he’s a “little spoiled,” and he “loves Mommy Sherry too much!” Ha! (Could it be all those cookies I’ve been sneaking to him?) We love these children and we pray that God will take care of them through these difficult times in Haiti.
