A Creole Proverb…
“Bef san ke, Bondye pouse mouch pou li…”
“The cow with no tail, God pushes away the flies for him…”
This really means – God takes care of the poor.
You may remember hearing about Charlie last year. His mother Elicia brought him to our remote mobile medical clinic in the village of Lastik. We were there with the Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope team. There were hundreds in line waiting for help.
Elicia and Charlie came from a very poor area at the top of a mountain called Peyi Pouri, which means “Rotten Country.” She had traveled by foot for hours in the chilly, early morning darkness with Charlie in her arms. Elicia brought Charlie to the clinic that morning all wrapped up in a blanket. As she pulled the blanket off, we were able to see that he was born without arms or legs. In spite of his missing limbs, Charlie smiled and cooed at the volunteers. He was well fed and healthy and had been brought to the clinic not because he was sick, but because the villagers had threatened to get rid of the baby if she did not. Elicia came to the clinic out of fear for her son’s life. The Haitian culture is steeped in voodoo and babies like Charlie are viewed as a curse.
It wasn’t easy, but with God on our side we were able to find help for Charlie. He is currently in the United States with a host family and is being fitted for prosthetic limbs. We thank Vanessa and Angel Mission for taking on the burden and responsibility of finding Charlie care, prosthetics, doctors, a hospital and a host family. Thank you Vanessa for helping to change the life of a child in Haiti.

He is even trying to walk. He has not mastered it yet, but he will.
This is another story of how a life in Haiti has been changed. We thank everyone who helped get Charlie his new arms and legs. We thank Joyce Meyer Ministries – Hand of Hope for going to the regions beyond with us and caring for the least of these. We also thank Vanessa for finding help in the United States for Charlie. We also thank Charlie’s host family for taking care of him.
Charlie was born without arms or legs in Haiti, which is considered the poorest country in the world. His life seemed hopeless. A child like Charlie in Haiti could easily be starved to death so there is one less mouth to feed. Only the God that we serve who takes care of “the cows without tails” could give little Charlie arms, legs and a good life. That is why we love Him so much.
