On Saturday, I received a frantic message from Nixon, our Administrator at the Birthing Center. It said, “Help! We need money for a C-Section…the babies are coming sideways!”
In the States, this would not be a problem because twins are born quite frequently in hospitals that perform C-Sections. However, since we are a “Birthing Center” and not a hospital, we are not equipped to do this type of delivery.
We take care of the mothers, deliver the babies, and provide all the labs and medicines the mothers need, but we do not do C-Sections. Apparently, the hospital that “does” the C-Sections was closed, or the road was blocked…not sure.
We provide ultrasounds so that we know each month if the baby will be fine and if the mother can deliver. However, if there is a possibility of the mother needing a “C-Section,” she must save money ahead of time to have that done in a hospital that provides that care. So when we got this message, it was “life or death.”
We had to quickly locate a hospital that would do this and provide the money for the C-Section and send her in our ambulance, which we do not charge for. (So many times, we provide this service because mothers sometimes cannot save up the money or borrow it for the C-Section). It was a little hectic, but, as you can see, the twins came out just fine!!! Mother and babies are doing well.
We have lots of good times and lots of stressful times, but the Lord helps us get through.
God bless all of our partners!
